Transit Security Officer Job Description

Transit Security Officers patrol on foot and in marked vehicles to ensure security and protect all transit property, including trains, buses, stations and terminals, yards, and transit property.

Transit Security Officers work in the public view and are recognized as part of the transit security force by transit system users. As such they are generally regarded in high esteem by passengers and are often asked for directions or help in orientation by members of the public.

Transit Security Officers have more responsibility. The position requires that the officer be armed. This requirement means more Security Officer training is involved and in many cases the wage reflects this fact.

Transit Security Officer Job Requirements

HERITAGE SECURITY WILL TRAIN QUALIFIED APPLICANTS, BUT GIVES PREFERENCE TO APPLICANTS ALREADY MEETING REQUIREMENTS.

Basic Requirements for ALL Positions:

• 18 Years of age, a U.S. Citizen or Legal Resident.
• Pass a civil, criminal, and employment background check.
• Have reliable transportation.
• Be physically capable of performing the job.
• Be well groomed and professional in appearance.

Background and Job Experience:

• Prior military or security officer-related experience.
• Transit Systems Security Basic Training Program graduate.

Education:

• BSIS^* Powers to Arrest Training
• PC 832 Training

License and Certification Requirements:

• BSIS Guard Registration (California Guard Card)
• BSIS Permit for Exposed Firearm
• BSIS Baton Permit
• Tear Gas Certificate
• CPR Training
• First Aid Training

Other Skills and Experience:

• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Likes people and is good at working with the general public.
• Defensive Tactics training or experience.
• Arrest and Control techniques training or experience.
• Vehicle driving and defensive driving skills.
