Security Guard Job Description

Security Guards may patrol on foot, in marked vehicles, or at managed stations to ensure security and protect client property. This may include high-rise office areas, professional ball games, construction sites, gated residential communities, manufacturing facilities, and others. Security Guards may work full time or part time. Officers work often in the public view in office buildings, piers, plant areas, and at entrances or exits where they may be asked for help, directions, or assistance. Security Guards may work Armed or UnArmed. Some positions require that the officer be armed. This requirement means more Security Guard training is involved and in many cases the wage reflects this fact.


Transit Security Guard Job Description

Transit Authority Officers have the most proactive and high action positions of all of the private security jobs. They work in pairs and patrol on foot and in patrol cars. The TSS (Transit Systems Security) officers are responsible for the safety and well being of all of the passengers of the San Diego city Metro Transit System Trolley Line. They ensure the safety and protect all transit property, including trains, buses, stations and terminals, yards and transit property.

 

This is a physically demanding position that will require the officer to make arrests and detain suspects. This position accepts both armed and unarmed candidates. Unarmed officers will be expected to become armed later in their career. Transit Security Officers will be trained in use of baton and mace/chemical. The high level of performance that is required of a Transit Security Officer requires constant training and advancement.


Supervisor / FTO Job Description

Security Supervisors and Field Training Officers (FTOs) with experience and training are in demand. Heritage Security prefers to promote from within, but sometimes we need to hire entry level management from outside the company to help fill the rapidly growing demand. All positions are held to a higher level of professionalism and standards than our regular guards.

 

This is a position of leadership and requires strong organizational skills, motivational training and diplomacy. The FTO will be a direct link between the client and the operation staff. The FTO/ Supervisor must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Proficiency with Computers and Hand Held/PDA Systems, a must. Background must include experience in directing and overseeing others. Direct responsibility of the performance of others is the job requirement.


Courier Job Description

The Courier Services provided by Fort Heritage Courier, are those associated with the transfer of monetary instruments from our clients to their chosen destinations. We also provide courier services on occasion for documents, packages, etc… but our primary mission is the delivery of Bank deposits for our clients.

 

This position asks that the guards carry a firearm and to use Company vehicles to follow specific and defined routes to pick up deposits from various types of clients for delivery to banks and other receivers. Couriers must be able to work unsupervised and have an unblemished driving record. Attention to detail and communication skills must be excellent, both written and verbal. Fort Heritage Couriers are held to the highest level of professionalism in the company.


Concierge Job Description

The position of Concierge Guard is one of the most prestigious positions here at Heritage, usually located in a very expensive high rise. Our clients expect a guard who can combine the alert demeanor of a well trained security guard with the gracious diplomacy of a concierge. This position expects high intelligence, good decision-making abilities, strong computer skills and the highest level of professionalism and sophistication. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong ability to make quick, correct decisions and follow through with diplomacy and tact.


Cruise Line Terminal Guard Job Description

Cruise Ship Terminal Guards assist in security operations at the Port of San Diego Cruise Ship Terminal in a pleasant and highly professional atmosphere. This includes on-site shifts of up to one hundred and fifty security officers who enforce MTSA regulations, CFR 105 regulations, Cruise Ship Terminal SOP, and all other Port Safety regulations for employees and passengers.


Cruise Ship Terminal Guards will be in communication with and maintain good working relationship with a broad cross section of Port employees, tenants, and clients at the CST. All guards will be expected to become cross trained in many areas; the schedules can and are flexible and varied. This position requires long periods of standing and walking both indoors and out.


Requirements:

  • Work hours may vary from 0430 A.M. to 0600 P.M. on a regular basis.
  • California Driver’s License
  • California Security Guard Card
  • Transportation Worker’s ID Card (TWIC)
  • Dependable transportation a must

 BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL POSITIONS

These are the basic requirements for all Security Guard and Supervisor positions with Heritage Security. If you do not meet these qualifications, don't worry! We will help you train and certify!

 

Basic Requirements:
  • 18 Years of age, a U.S. Citizen or Legal Resident.
  • Pass a civil, criminal, and employment background check.
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Be physically capable of performing the job.
  • Be well groomed and professional in appearance.
License and Certification Requirements:
  • BSIS* Guard Registration (California Guard Card)
  • BSIS* Permit for Exposed Firearm (for some positions)
  • BSIS Baton Permit (for some positions)
Background and Job Experience:
  • Prior military or Security Guard-related experience.
Education:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
Other Skills and Experience:
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Likes people and is good at working with the general public.
  • Defensive Tactics training or experience.
  • Arrest and Control techniques training or experience.
  • Vehicle driving and defensive driving skills.

 

 EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Heritage Security maintains high standards in employing professional security staff. Please review our standards for Security Guard Certification, Appearance, and Demeanor. Every candidate will be reviewed for Background, training, availability and location. We match the best candidate to every position.

 

Certification: All security guards in the state of California MUST have a valid state guard card issued by the BSIS. For applicants that we want to offer employment to, we will assist in helping them get their guard cards. The BSIS will not issue guard cards to convicted Felons. They will generally not issue cards to those convicted of a misdemeanor. If you have any questions about what is or is not acceptable, please go to the state web-site and review the BSIS guidelines.

 

Appearance: We follow the San Diego Police Department's standard of grooming: neat short hair, no facial hair, no visible tattoos and no extraordinary piercings. Every Site has a contract with our clients and these standards are included in the contracts. There are no exceptions.


Demeanor: Guards are expected to not only appear to be sharp and professional at all times, they are required to act as such. They will be expected to be the person in command of every situation and to act professionally at all times. This is what our clients expect of us.

 

Physical Requirements: you must be able to stand for a minimum of 8 hours. Walking, bending, climbing, etc. are required of the position. There are no desk positions.
